The Drive: Approaching a Work Zone? Your Phone Could Tell You

Drivers are so used to seeing static and digital work zone signs that they no longer pay attention to them. Chen-Fu Liao, a senior systems engineer at the University of Minnesota’s Traffic Observatory, and a research team are developing and testing the Work Zone Alert app, which would deliver audio messages directly to drivers in their vehicles through their smartphones or vehicle’s infotainment system.
