Abstract:

Traffic delay might be the output of a thriving economy where people and goods are traveling throughout the region at certain times during the day. However, it has a negative impact such as contribute to the lower standard of living to the road user. This study evaluates traffic delay issues and their causes from the road user perspective of Hospital Road, in Kangar, Perlis, Malaysia. Data on travel time were collected using a Moving-Vehicle Technique for both direction of the road. The results indicated a longer travel times during peak hours, especially in the evening peak. For the cause of delay by the road user perspective, 160 questionnaires were distributed to Hospital Road users. The collected data were analysed using Partial Least Squares structural equation modelling (PLS- SEM) by using SmartPLS software. The analysis identified driver behaviour duringdriving, inefficient control devices, road construction and maintenance, road and traffic management, and other occasional events as significant causes of traffic delays.
