Guidelines on Improving Work Zone Safety Through Public Information and Traveler Information
Abstract:The document describes the role of traveler information strategies in improving work zone safety. Effective traveler information systems can increase driver awareness, reduce public frustration with work zone delays, and reduce crashes caused by traffic congestion and queuing by encouring motorists to utilize altermative travel routes and modes. The document addresses real-time information strategies (including portable changeable message signing, highway advisory radio, telephone hotlines, websites, and mobile device applications and data), and public awareness strategies.
