How Idaho Road Workers Double as First Responders
Abstract:The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) plays a critical role in emergency response due to the extensive presence of its highway crews across the state’s 12,000-mile road network. Often the first on the scene of accidents, ITD workers collaborate closely with the Idaho State Police, exemplifying their dedication to community safety. From aiding in multi-fatality crashes and aviation accidents to ensuring road safety during emergencies like mudslides, ITD crews are deeply embedded in Idaho’s small communities, motivated by a sense of responsibility toward friends and family. Despite challenges such as unrecognized equipment and disregard for road safety measures, ITD emphasizes the importance of patience and respect for their life-saving efforts.
