I-59 Lane Closings Cause Reckless Driving, Accidents

Since the northbound lanes of Interstate 59 in Alabama were closed for a major construction project, there have been some bizarre actions by drivers that resulted in accidents. The lack of desired northbound access at certain exit has been considered the cause. To alleviate the problem, the Alabama Department of Transportation has started a web site and a toll-free number to provide updates on construction, lane and ramp closures, detour routes and more. Work zone driving tips are also provided.
