I-80 Fatality Near Work Zone Raises More Safety Questions

Author/Presenter: Forgrave, Reid; Belz, Adam
Abstract:

A segment of Interstate 80 passing through Jasper County, Iowa has proven to be extremely dangerous in 2010. In the month of August there were eight fatalities and multiple injuries on the interstate as a result of drivers losing control of their vehicles. The most recent accident was near a work zone on Interstate 80. Traffic was at a standstill after a serious four-vehicle crash which involved one van, one truck, and two tractor-trailers, and resulted in one fatality. The accident serves as a reminder for all motorists to pay attention while travelling on interstates, especially when travelling through work zones.
