Illinois Expressway Signs Warn of Photo-Enforced Speed Limits, but Cameras Are Out of Commission

Author/Presenter: Garcia, John
Abstract:

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) plans to deploy speed enforcement trucks with photo-enforced cameras to Chicago-area highways. Currently, speed cameras are inactive on expressways, though signs remain posted. These signs have proven effective, reducing the number of drivers speeding in construction zones. While the trucks are currently used downstate, IDOT aims to bring them to Chicago soon. Their primary goal is to encourage safe driving, especially in high-traffic areas where speeding is less feasible due to congestion.
