Indiana Adds More Traffic Camera ‘Safe Zones’ in Construction Sites

Abstract:

Indiana has expanded its work zone speed enforcement program by adding a new camera-enforced Safe Zone on Interstate 65 in Jasper County near Rensselaer. The state now operates three Safe Zones, with a fourth planned for Interstate 74 southeast of Indianapolis, the maximum number permitted under state law. Drivers traveling 11 mph or more above the posted speed limit in these zones receive a warning for a first offense, a $75 fine for a second offense, and a $150 fine for subsequent violations. The program is intended to improve safety in highway construction zones through automated speed enforcement.
