Indiana Senate OKs Speed Camera Enforcement in Highway Work Zones

Author/Presenter: Carden, Dan
Abstract:

State lawmakers are close to sending to the governor a plan authorizing the use of automated camera enforcement to ticket motorists exceeding the speed limit by at least 11 mph in highway work zones. Supporters of House Bill 1015 claimed that automated speed-enforcement cameras will prompt motorists to slow down in work zones and reduce the number of injuries and deaths associated with such crashes. Opponents of the legislation said government should not be in the business of using cameras to automatically ticket its citizens and warned that opening this door inevitably will lead to even more speed-camera enforcement in school zones and elsewhere.
