Michigan Work Zones, School Buses to Use Cameras to Catch Traffic Violators

Abstract:

Michigan is implementing automated cameras in work zones and on school buses to enhance road safety by reducing speeding and enforcing traffic laws. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed bipartisan legislation enabling speed enforcement systems in work zones and stop-arm cameras on school buses. In 2023, Michigan recorded over 8,000 work zone crashes, including 24 fatalities. Under the new law, drivers exceeding the speed limit by 10 mph or more in work zones will first receive a warning, followed by escalating fines for repeat offenses. These measures aim to prevent crashes and protect road workers and students.
