MnDOT Honors Fallen Transportation Workers for Worker Memorial Day

Abstract:

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) commemorates Worker Memorial Day on April 28, 2025, honoring transportation workers killed or injured on state highways. Since 1960, 36 MnDOT employees and 16 contractors have lost their lives in work zones. Governor Tim Walz has proclaimed the day in their honor, with the I-35W Bridge in Minneapolis to be lit orange as a tribute. MnDOT emphasizes the importance of driver safety in work zones, highlighting key practices such as obeying speed limits, avoiding distractions, and using the zipper merge. The agency also provides resources for real-time traffic updates and memorial information.
