NCHRP Report 350 Compliance Tests on Rockingham Precast Concrete Barriers
Author/Presenter: Arnold, Althea; Menges, Wanda L.Abstract:
Rockingham Precast has developed a connection for the F-shaped Concrete Median Barrier (CMB). The connection is similar to the New York design in that it consists of a T-shape connector that slides into a slit box section. Unlike the New York design, there are no loose parts. Each section of CMB has a male and female end. The CMBs are lifted and set into place making the connection as they are set down. The connection has enough play that it can be placed on a gentle curve in the roadway. “The tests presented herein are those required for the CMB to meet the NCHRP 350 standards. The test article passed test designation 3-10 with 0.18 m maximum permanent displacement in the barriers. After modifying the CMB to strengthen the connections, the test article passed test designation 3-11 with 1.15 m maximum permanent displacement in the barriers.
