New U of M App Alerts Drivers to Construction Zones
Abstract:To combat distracted driving in work zones, the University of Minnesota Center for Transportation Studies has developed an app that allows workers to send an audio-only notification to drivers as they approach construction zones. The app can pick up the signals from 500 feet away and once it has the signal it broadcasts the message through the mobile device. If a driver is on the phone, the message will interrupt with the warning that construction is ahead.
