Ohio, Pennsylvania Plan Interstate System for Managing Road Work

Author/Presenter: Wood, Colin
Abstract:

Ohio and Pennsylvania will soon start a project to develop an interstate system called the Work Zone Reservation and Traveler Information System, or WZRTIS, to manage road construction projects. The WZRTIS project is a partnership between the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission, an autonomous and connected vehicle initiative called DriveOhio, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. The $5.38 million project, which will eliminate confusion and redundancy in agencies’ existing scheduling processes, is scheduled for completion in 2022. WZRTIS has the potential to be adopted as a single unified national system.
