OSHA Finalizes New Personal Protective Equipment Rule for Construction
Abstract:A new OSHA rule requiring construction employers to provide properly fitting personal protective equipment (PPE) will take effect on January 13. Finalized on December 11, the regulation aims to address sizing issues for workers outside standard PPE designs. Employers must ensure that essential safety gear, including hard hats, gloves, and harnesses, accommodates individual body types. While the American Road & Transportation Builders Association supports the rule’s intent, it has expressed concerns, alongside the Construction Industry Safety Coalition (CISC), about the lack of clear guidance on determining proper fit. Employers must now assess their PPE inventory to comply with the new standard and avoid potential safety risks.
