Relationships Between Drivers’ Safety Perception and Merging Behaviour in Work Zones
Author/Presenter: Ranawaka, Tharindu; Davies, Huw; Bastien, Christophe; Debnath, AshimAbstract:
This conference paper investigates the relationship between drivers’ safety perceptions and driving behavior when merging in highway work zones. Using survey data from licensed drivers in Australia and the United Kingdom, the study examines responses to simulated work zone merging scenarios and driver behavior characteristics. The analysis identifies factors associated with perceived safety and examines how driver demographics, experience, and behavioral tendencies influence these perceptions. The findings provide insights into driver behavior in work zone merging areas and may help inform strategies to improve work zone safety.
