Road-Work Zones: Slow Down, Pay Attention and Relax
Abstract:Road construction has caused a lot of anger and frustration among drivers. 59 Washington state Department of Transportation employees were killed in work zones since 1950. An average of 1,000 people was injured in work zones each year and 99 percent of them are drivers and their passengers. To combat the safety issue, lawmakers imposed double fines for speeding and reckless driving through work zones. Transportation workers offered recommendations for motorists to plan their travel route, expect traffic delays, slow down, and be extra cautious as they travel through construction zones.
