Selecting a Sign Support System for Low Volume Roads and Streets

This article discusses what type of sign support system should be used for low volume roads and streets. The MUTCD is noted as a source for reference on the topic. It specifically mentions the NCHRP 350 report in relation to crash worthiness and the AASHTO standard specifications for wind loading. In addition, TEEX training courses have been developed for people who need to know how to select and install sign support systems. The article discusses factors involved in determining the life cycle costs in relation to sign maintenance. Worker safety is also addressed.
