Speed-enforcement Vans Detoured Off Illinois Tollway: State Police Reroute Photo Enforcement Vehicles to Expressways

Author/Presenter: Hilkevitch, Jon
Abstract:

Illinois State Police are discontinuing the use of photo enforcement vans on Illinois Tollway construction zones. The vans have been utilized by the Illinois Department of Transportation for four years and have issued thousands of tickets to speeding motorists. However, they have not been proved effective at reducing the number of fatalities in highway work zones. As roadwork decreases on tollways this year, only two state police vans are operating on Chicago-area expressways, mainly at night when workers are present.
