Speeders in Work Zones Targeted
Author/Presenter: Rozas, AngelaAbstract:
Gov. Rod Blagojevich is asking for tougher penalties for motorists who drive recklessly or speed through work zones, after the recent deaths of transportation workers. The governor is proposing that fines for speeding in a work zone be increased from $200 to $500. Reckless driving penalties would double, from $250 to $500. Repeat offenders would be fined $1,000. The state has increased fines for work-zone violations three times in the last eight years and has implemented tougher penalties for speeders convicted of injuring or killing construction workers.
