State: Lack of Compliance With Handheld Cellphone Ban in Work Zones Poses Safety Risks

One year after Wisconsin banned the use of handheld cellphones in road construction areas, the number of violators has gone up instead of down. As a result, the number of work zone crashes goes up as well. Stepped-up enforcement, road signage, and reminders on social media do not seem to have an effect on non-compliant drivers.
