Technical Brief on Connected Work Zones

Abstract:

Learn how connected work zone technologies are transforming roadway construction and maintenance operations through real-time data sharing, connected devices, and enhanced traveler communications. Developed by the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) with support from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), this technical brief explores the evolution of connected work zones, including smart arrow boards, connected location markers, automated worker presence systems, digital speed management tools, and interoperability standards such as the Work Zone Data Exchange (WZDx).
