Variable Speed Limits Ease Congestion, Reduce Crashes on Highways: Study

In an effort to make traffic move more smoothly, researchers at the University of Missouri tested the effectiveness of Variable Advisory Speed Limit (VASL) systems, which provide drivers with a recommended speed based on real-time traffic conditions ahead of time. The results of this study showed that VASL systems proved to be effective at relieving congestion and prevent crashes.
