Wisconsin Transportation Builder Association Launches New Drivers Ed Work Zone Safety Program
Author/Presenter: Landgrebe, JeremyAbstract:
The Wisconsin Transportation Builder Association (WTBA) has launched “Work Zone Safe Wisconsin,” a new program aimed at enhancing road safety through education. Announced in Osseo, this initiative targets student drivers, teaching them the laws and signs relevant to work zones. The program is a response to alarming statistics from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), reporting eight fatalities in 2022 and nine in 2023 due to work zone incidents, alongside over 700 injuries. Among these tragedies was Zane Reilly, a young electrical worker killed on the job in Sauk County. The new Wisconsin law mandates at least 30 minutes of work zone education in drivers ed courses. Participants are also eligible for a $500 scholarship drawing, underscoring the program’s commitment to fostering safer driving habits and protecting road workers.
