WisDOT Launches New Traffic Safety Measures for Work Zones
Author/Presenter: Fristed, SamAbstract:
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is introducing new safety measures and public awareness efforts to improve safety in highway work zones. Initiatives include illuminated speed limit signs, automated flagging assistance devices that allow flaggers to work farther from traffic, and increased law enforcement presence near work zones. WisDOT also reminds motorists to remain alert, obey speed limits, avoid distracted driving, and plan for delays or use alternate routes when traveling through construction areas. Drivers caught speeding or using a cell phone in a work zone are subject to double fines.
