Woman Jailed for Driving While Intoxicated, Plowing Into Austin Police Car

Author/Presenter: Huerta, Jennie
Abstract:

Twenty-one-year-old Patricia Garcia was arrested Friday morning for driving while intoxicated. At around 3:30 am, Garcia’s 2006 Infiniti crashed into the rear of Officer Rivera-Torres’ patrol car which was parked in a construction zone. Rivera-Torres was working overtime in the construction zone when the accident took place. Garcia’s driving behavior concerns police officers because she veered toward the emergency lights instead of away from them in the construction zone. This behavior endangers police officers and construction workers working late at night like Officer Rivera-Torres. Garcia and Rivera-Torres both received minor injuries as a result of the accident, but the situation could have been much worse. The accident is a reminder of the dangers associated with drunk driving and its effect on roadway workers.
