Work Zone Crashes on the Rise in Kansas

The total number of accidents in Kansas road construction zones has risen in the past three years. Curtis James Harlan, a 22-year-old roadside worker, was struck and killed on Aug. 5 by a passenger car on Interstate 470 in Topeka. Harlan is the first work zone fatality in Shawnee County this year. There are a total of four fatalities in construction zones from 2000 and 2011.
