Maintenance Training Series: Basics of Work Zone Traffic Control
This course provides an introduction to the requirements outlined in Part 6 of the 2009 MUTCD. The course also offers an overview of the manual’s structure and requirements regarding traffic control devices and their applications, flagging operations and procedures, and pedestrian and worker safety.
Through a series of work zone scenarios, this course uses the MUTCD Part 6 to review fundamental concepts of setting up work zones, including proper signage, taper lengths, and flagging procedures. Participants are encouraged to compare their State’s standards, if available, to the guidance established in the MUTCD and determine what additional requirements may need to be met to establish safe, compliant work zones.
