Talking Michigan Transportation: Slow but Steady Progress on Legislation to Protect Road Workers

The Michigan Senate committee recently advanced legislation to authorize automated technology for enforcing speed limits in construction zones, following the successful example of states like Pennsylvania. This episode of the Talking Michigan Transportation podcast features Rob Coppersmith of the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association and Juan Pava from the Illinois Department of Transportation. They discuss their advocacy for worker safety and the impact of automated enforcement. Highlighting Illinois’ pioneering 2006 legislation and Michigan’s ongoing efforts, the discussion underscores the importance and effectiveness of these technologies in protecting road workers. Michigan House Bill 4132, which garnered bipartisan support, exemplifies the legislative momentum towards enhancing work zone safety.
