British Columbia Construction-Zone Flaggers Form Association

Author/Presenter: Gilbert, Richard
Abstract:

Traffic control workers in British Columbia recently formed the British Columbia Flagging Association for traffic control in an effort to increase construction zone safety. Multiple fatalities and injuries to flaggers in 2009 instigated the creation of this association. Its members are concerned for construction zone workers because police cannot strictly limit themselves to monitoring construction zones at all times. Therefore, motorists are not as cautious as they should be while travelling through construction zones. The group hopes to generate awareness and evoke motorists to slow down and use caution in construction zones.
