Connected Cars and Smart Vests Could Help Make Work Zones Safer

More than 1,200 roadside workers have been killed by accidents involving vehicles since 2010. Audi is one of the automakers that are working to implement cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technology and safety features into its upcoming cars. Partnered with Virginia Department of Transportation and Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, the team has tested and deployed cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technology to alert drivers when they are entering work zones and provide audible notifications to roadside workers when vehicles are close to a work zone.
