Contractors from California, Texas, and Virginia Receive 2024 ARTBA Contractor Safety Awards

The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) recognized exemplary employee safety programs during its annual national convention on September 23 in Amelia Island, Florida. The ARTBA “Contractor Safety Awards” honor construction companies prioritizing worker safety and health in the transportation design and construction industry. Granite Construction was named the “Grand Champion” for its comprehensive safety initiatives, emphasizing worker empowerment and proactive communication. Awards were based on OSHA-reported injury rates, insurance-determined Experience Modification Rates (EMRs), and demonstrated safety excellence, with finalists presenting to industry judges. Winners included Perry Engineering (less than 500,000 personnel hours), Texas Sterling (500,000–1 million hours), and Granite Construction (over 1 million hours).
