CTDOT to Activate Work Zone Speed Cameras on June 1: Warning Period Begins Before Fines Start in July

The Connecticut Department of Transportation launched its Know the Zone: Automated Work Zone Speed Control Program on June 1, 2026, using automated speed cameras to enforce posted speed limits in selected highway work zones. The program, tested since October 2025, detected more than 8.4 million vehicles during March–May 2026, including approximately 1.36 million traveling above posted work zone speed limits. Initial deployments began at work zones on I-95 in West Haven and East Lyme and Route 2 in Colchester, with additional locations planned. The program uses radar to identify vehicles traveling at least 10 mph over the limit, with warnings and monetary penalties issued according to the violation and speed.
