Drivers Caught on Camera Speeding Through Maryland Work Zones Could Receive Fines 7x Higher
Author/Presenter: Dickstein, RyanAbstract:
Maryland’s Governor Wes Moore and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller have introduced the Maryland Road Worker Protection Act of 2024, aimed at enhancing safety measures for road workers in construction zones. This proposed legislation follows a tragic incident where six construction workers were fatally struck by a speeding vehicle on I-695. The act proposes stiffer civil penalties for drivers caught speeding through construction zones by a speed camera, raising fines from $40 to $290, aligning them with penalties for violations caught by police officers.
