Drones in Transportation Engineering: A Discussion of Current Drone Rules, Equipment, and Applications

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, allow for fast, safe, and efficient engineering data collection, as well as 2D and 3D data visualization. This article reviews the history use of UAVs, their engineering applications, and applicable FAA regulations. Examples of using UAVs, including documentation of construction zone traffic control, are provided.
