Gov. Ivey Signs Alabama Work Zone Safety Act
Abstract:The article reports that Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed Senate Bill 341, the Alabama Work Zone Safety Act, establishing a pilot program to deploy photographic speed enforcement systems in interstate highway work zones. Sponsored by Senator Josh Carnley and Representative Mike Kirkland, the legislation aims to improve safety for both road workers and motorists through automated speed enforcement and enhanced compliance in active construction areas. The bill also mandates legislative reporting to evaluate program effectiveness. In response to rising work zone crashes including 2,543 incidents and 11 fatalities in 2025, the state emphasizes a data-driven approach to reducing risky driving behavior. A public awareness campaign will begin in October, with full enforcement expected by year’s end.
