How AI Could Reduce Struck-Bys in Road Work Zones

Author/Presenter: Obando, Sebastian
Abstract:

The article discusses how artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality can improve construction and work zone safety by helping workers recognize hazards and maintain attention. Texas A&M University researchers are studying worker responses to roadside hazards through VR simulations, brain activity monitoring, field observations, and AI-based systems. The research also examines habituation to recurring warnings and hazards and the potential for AI to provide personalized, project-specific safety training based on individual workers, tasks, and conditions.
