‘It Would Raise People’s Level of Concern.’ Michigan Senate Approves Speed Cameras in Work Zones

Abstract:

A Michigan Senate-approved bill aims to install speed cameras in work zones to reduce speeding-related crashes. The proposal follows recent and past tragedies, including the 2020 death of Zach Morisette, whose family supports the measure for enhanced safety and accountability. If signed into law, speed cameras will issue warnings and fines for violations. While the bill has strong backing, some lawmakers argue that law enforcement should handle citations. The legislation now awaits Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s decision.
