Look at Highway Work Zones From My Perspective: NJDOT crew supervisor shares first-hand experiences from 15 years spent working on state and interstate highways

This article offers a poignant firsthand account from a New Jersey Department of Transportation employee, shedding light on the often-overlooked dangers faced by highway workers. Through the lens of an experienced worker, the narrative highlights the inherent risks and challenges of working on busy highways, from enduring deafening noise levels and unpredictable air drafts to braving harsh weather conditions. Importantly, it emphasizes the critical role of motorists in ensuring the safety of these workers, urging for heightened awareness, patience, and respect when navigating through work zones. By humanizing the experiences of those behind the barriers, the article advocates for a collective responsibility to prioritize safety on the roads, ultimately aiming to foster greater understanding and empathy towards the dedicated professionals who strive to keep our highways safe.
