Michigan Weighs Work Zones Cameras to Catch Speeders, Slow Traffic

Author/Presenter: Nissen, Jack
Abstract:

Introduced earlier this year, HB 5750 would authorize an automated speed enforcement system in construction zones, replacing Michigan State Police troopers with cameras that could be mounted on unmarked vehicles parked in construction zones. The cameras would photograph the license plates on vehicles speeding over the limit in those zones. The first violation would come with a written warning, a second violation with $150 fine, and a third violation worth $300. This bill is a response to climbing rates of reckless driving as well as an expected surge in new road construction projects over the next few years.
