‘Not Only With Tears, but With Action’: MaineDOT Honors Two Workers Killed on Duty

Author/Presenter: Bradley, Grace
Abstract:

The article recounts a solemn memorial held in Augusta, Maine, honoring two Maine Department of Transportation workers, James “Jimmy” Brown and Dwayne Campbell, who were killed in a January highway accident caused by a driver’s failure to stop. Attended by state officials, colleagues, and family members, the service highlighted the men’s dedication to public service and the close-knit nature of the DOT community. Speakers, including Governor Janet Mills and Commissioner Dale Doughty, emphasized both the personal loss and the broader dangers faced by roadside workers. The event also served as a call to action, urging increased driver awareness and interagency collaboration to improve work zone safety, alongside ongoing legislative efforts to strengthen enforcement measures.
