NY Bridge Named for Worker Killed in Work Zone Crash

Abstract:

The New York State Department of Transportation dedicated a bridge in Rensselaer County to the memory of Robert Bornt, a highway maintenance supervisor who was killed in a work zone crash in May 2025. The bridge, located on State Route 2 in the Town of Petersburg, will be formally renamed in his honor. The dedication highlights the risks faced by highway maintenance workers and comes amid continued efforts by state transportation agencies to raise awareness of work zone safety and honor employees killed in the line of duty. The article also discusses memorial and awareness activities conducted by state DOTs nationwide as part of National Work Zone Awareness Week.
