Pa. Bill Would Toughen Penalties for Injuring Responders in Vehicle Crashes

Michael Weigand Act, a new bill named for an Adams County police officer who died on duty when a man crashed a pickup truck into his motorcycle, passed the Pennsylvania state House last week and now goes to the state Senate for consideration. The bill would allow up to five years of prison sentence for those who kill emergency responders in vehicle crashes and up to two years for those who seriously injure emergency responders or workers in an active construction zone.
