Project Summary: Work Zone Data Exchange (WZDx): CARS eXchange
Abstract:The “Work Zone Data Exchange (WZDx): CARS eXchange” project, led by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and supported by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), aims to enhance roadway safety and mobility by facilitating the real-time sharing of work zone information between public agencies and private sector entities. This initiative aligns with FHWA’s goal of increasing safety for the traveling public through improved situational awareness.
To achieve this, MnDOT developed several key components:
-
WZDx Publisher: Pushing information to third parties in the WZDx format.
-
WZDx Fusion Engine: Pulling information from other WZDx-compliant feeds.
-
Work Zone / Worker Presence (WZWP) App: Creating a mobile tool for workers to check into work zones.
