Spokane-Area Work Zone Speed Cameras Set to Expand Statewide

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is expanding a pilot program that uses mobile speed cameras to enforce speed limits in work zones, making the program permanent in Central and Eastern Washington. The cameras, mounted on portable trailers, can be deployed in work zones on state roads and freeways. Washington State Patrol troopers review potential violations before notices are issued, with fines of approximately $125 for a first violation and up to $248 for subsequent violations. The program is intended to reduce work zone crashes and improve driver behavior by encouraging motorists to slow down in active work zones.
