Third Caltrans Worker Dies in the Line of Duty in 7-Week Period
Abstract:The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced that Richard Gonzalez, a 52-year-old Caltrans maintenance worker, was struck and killed by a vehicle while picking up litter along the northbound Interstate 15. Gonzalez is the third Caltrans worker to die on duty in 48 days. Caltrans called a temporary stop for all highway maintenance activities to revisit the safety issues. They will also put out electronic highway message signs asking motorists to slow down and watch out for highway workers.
