Work Zone Sting Operation Puts Troopers in PennDOT Vehicles

Author/Presenter: Paul, John
Abstract:

PennDOT and the Pennsylvania State Police have launched “Operation Yellow Jacket,” a safety initiative to protect construction workers in work zones. Troopers will monitor drivers from inside yellow PennDOT trucks equipped with radar guns while other officers are stationed nearby to issue citations for speeding, distracted driving, reckless behavior, and other violations. The program aims to change driver behavior and reduce dangerous incidents in construction areas. Last year, work zone crashes in the Philadelphia region resulted in 309 accidents and three fatalities. Officials emphasize that the initiative focuses on safety and accountability rather than issuing citations.
