Worker Fatalities Declined in 2024
Abstract:Fatal occupational injuries in the highway, street, and bridge construction sector decreased by 4.5%, from 88 in 2023 to 84 in 2024, according to ARTBA’s analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data. This decline reflects ongoing improvements in jobsite safety and the effectiveness of partnerships with agencies such as the Federal Highway Administration, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. As the spring construction season approaches, ARTBA encourages members to continue strengthening internal safety programs and take advantage of free training resources from the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse and the ARTBA Safety Center.
